The Premiere Night will be May 23rd at 7:00pm. It will be held once again at Essex Cinemas. See you there!
We know it is a huge challenge just to pull off a film in a weekend and so far we have received films from 9 of the 10 teams that were registered. There will be a premiere night at Essex Cinemas in roughly a months time. We will post the premiere night specifics here within the next week. The submitted films are off to the judges, good luck to all that have participated.
Films that I have received so far, if you aren’t crossed out I have your film.
New York:
You can submit your film online at this link SUBMIT ONLINE
Your film should be uploaded to vimeo for judging. You will be able to upload it under the 500mb cap of the free vimeo account if you compress it correctly (720p 5-6kbs H.264). If you uploaded your film to youtube please make a version available on vimeo since I can more easily download them.
If you have a higher res version 1080p version you would like to send in for premiere night you can do so by uploading it to vimeo (if you have a plus account) or by dropbox or mailing in a data DVD. These shouldn’t exceed 1 GB in size and should be h.264 compressed.
I hope everyone had a fun weekend and I can’t wait to start viewing the entries! As always if you have any questions please email me: tom.preska@gmail.com
thanks
******** Spring 2013 Fifty Hour Film Contest Prompt ********
Your Prop: A Flashlight
This prop must be clearly visible and somehow used/featured in the movie.
Your Character: An Evil Dictator
– This character in someway has to be shown and acted out in the movie. They don’t have to be central to the plot but they must appear in the film and not just be talked about by the actors.
Your Dialogue:
“They ain’t cuddly like me.”
“Well, you were right about this being a bad idea.”
“Did you really think that would work?
“You are dead to me.”
“I know kung fu.”
“We have a connection.”
“I got stabbed! Right here!”
“You paid money for this”
“Looks can be deceiving.”
You must use five of the lines above! This dialogue must be kept in
intact sentences, but the order, the timing or usage of these sentences
is entirely up to your group. These five sentences MUST be able to be
heard clearly in the final movie.
Your Genre: Mockumentary
The mockumentary is presented as a documentary recording real life, but is in fact fictional. It is a commonly used medium for parody and satire. They are often used to analyze current events and issues by using a fictional setting. Your mockumentary should center around a real/fictional event that you are documenting/parodying. It is common in Mockumentaries to use interviews with b roll “real life” footage interspersed to tell the story. Mockumentaries are sometimes partly or wholly improvised by the actors, there is a loose script for the action/plot but the actors have leeway in the dialogue and their actions. This can help to make the mockumentary have a more lifelike feel.
Example Mockumentary films:
This is Spinal Tap!
A Mighty Wind

The Prompt will be released on this site at around 2:30pm on Friday April 12th!
Due to the Vermont Model UN Competition that is going to knock out some participating schools we are moving the spring date to April 12th-14th. This is the last and FINAL date for the Spring 50. I apologize for all of these date changes and it will not happen in the future.
Thanks Tom Preska.
